Ian Nicholson - Chief Executive Officer
Ian Nicholson joined Chroma in September 2004. Prior to joining Chroma, he was Senior Vice President of Business Development for Celltech, responsible for all global licensing activities, and additionally held the position of Acting CEO, Oxford GlycoSciences following its acquisition by Celltech. Prior to this he was Commercial Director at Oxford Asymmetry and has held a variety of senior commercial positions with Lonza and Amersham. He holds a BSc (Hons) degree from University College, London and an MBA from Boston University.

Dr Alan Drummond - Chief Scientific Officer
Dr Drummond joined Chroma in September 2001, initially as founding CEO. A pharmacologist by training, Dr Drummond followed a PhD in Pathology from Cambridge University in 1976 with post-doctoral work at the Friedrich Miescher-Institut in Basel before returning to academic positions in the Universities of Glasgow and London. From 1988 to 2000, he was at British Biotech where he held a variety of positions in both Research and Development, including Deputy Director of R&D. For the last three years he was Research Director, with responsibility for over 150 scientists, and was a member of the company’s board.

Richard Bungay - Chief Financial Officer
Richard Bungay joined Chroma in October 2004. He had been Director of Corporate Communications and Strategic Planning at Celltech since September 2000, with responsibility for investor and media relations, corporate M&A activity and strategic planning. Prior to this he held several senior financial positions at AstraZeneca, and before that was group financial controller at Celltech. He holds a degree in Chemistry from Nottingham University and is a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Dr Leon Hooftman - Chief Medical Officer
Dr Hooftman joined Chroma in October 2004. He was previously Head of Clinical Development at Celltech, and prior to this was Director of Clinical Science for Oncology and Immunology at Roche. He trained in general surgery and solid organ transplantation in the Netherlands, USA and UK and has extensive experience of biotechnology development programme's in the fields of cancer, autoimmune/inflammatory disorders and solid organ transplantation.

Dr Alan Davidson - Director, Pre-Clinical Development
Dr Davidson trained in Chemistry at Cambridge University and, following post-doctoral work at the University of California at Santa Cruz and in Oxford , took an academic post in Cardiff where his focus was on the synthesis of biologically important natural products. He spent twelve years at British Biotech with responsibility for both medicinal chemistry and for many aspects of pre-clinical development, including scale-up and analytical chemistry, formulation and bioanalytical development. He joined Chroma as Director of R&D at its inception.

Dr David Moffat – Head of Chemistry
Dr Moffat joined Chroma in September 2004. He had previously been Head of Chemistry at Celltech since May 2001, having begun his industrial career as a medicinal chemist with Celltech in 1989. He holds a BSc and PhD from the University of Glasgow. He has extensive experience in oncology and inflammation preclinical research, having led groups which have identified numerous clinical development candidates in these therapeutic areas.

Elizabeth Roper - Senior Business Development Manager
Elizabeth Roper joined Chroma in July 2006.  Previously she was part of a team of two that had responsibility for a life science venture capital portfolio in the investment division of The Wellcome Trust.  During this time, she led Wellcome's investments in Nabriva Therapeutics and Fovea Pharmaceuticals, as well as being a key part of the team that invested in a further 10 companies in the US and EU, including Chroma Therapeutics.  Prior to this, she worked as an analyst on the life science team at Atlas Ventures.  She attained a biochemistry degree from University College Cork and a Ph.D from the Imperial Cancer Research Fund.

Peter Allen - Chairman
Peter Allen joined the Board of Chroma in May 2004 and is currently Chief Financial Officer of Abacus Group plc and a Non-Executive Director of ProStrakan Group plc. Prior to this he was Chief Financial Officer of Celltech from 1992 until its acquisition by UCB Group in 2004, and in 2003 he was also appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer. A Chartered Accountant, he joined Celltech from Associated British Ports Holdings plc where he was Group Financial Controller. Prior to that he was Group Controller at L'Oreal (UK) and was a sales executive at the sports management company IMG.

Tim Haines
Tim Haines joined Chroma’s Board as Abingworth’s representative in February 2007.  Tim has more than 23 years of international management experience in the life sciences industry. Before joining Abingworth he was Chief Executive of the Abingworth portfolio company, Astex Therapeutics.  Tim was with Astex for more than five years and was instrumental in establishing it as one of the leading UK biotechnology companies.  During his time at Astex, the company accessed more than £50 million in venture capital and closed over $1b in deal value potential with pharmaceutical companies.  Previously, Tim was Chief Executive of two divisions of the publicly-listed medical technology company, Datascope Corp.  Prior to Datascope, he held a number of other senior management positions in the US and Europe. Tim has a BSc from Exeter University and an MBA from INSEAD.

Dr Judy Hemberger
Dr Hemberger was appointed to the Board in March 2006 as representative of Nomura Phase4 Ventures. She was a co-founder of Pharmion Corporation, a global pharmaceutical company dedicated to acquiring, licensing and commercialising pharmaceutical products in the areas of haematology and oncology, where she was until her retirement in 2006 Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and a member of the Board of Directors. Prior to founding Pharmion in 1999, she was Senior Vice President, Business Development for AVAX Technologies and Senior Vice President, Global Regulatory Affairs for Hoechst Marion Roussel, Inc.  She also previously served on the Board of Marion Merrill Dow.  She has a B.S. degree from Benedictine College and received a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri and an M.B.A. from Rockhurst College.

Steven Powell
Steven Powell joined the Board of Chroma in May 2004 and is Chief Executive Officer of Plethora Solutions plc. Prior to this he was a Director at Gilde Investment Management, and retains responsibility for Gilde’s UK portfolio companies. He joined Gilde from KS Biomedix plc, where he was CEO from 1999 until its acquisition by Xenova in 2003. He has worked in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry since 1985, initially with Beecham Pharmaceuticals (now GSK) as a development scientist and subsequently with Whatman, Radiometer, Chiroscience and Active Biotech.

Dr Petri Vainio
Dr Vainio joined the Board of Chroma in January 2004 and is Managing Director of Essex Woodlands, one of the longest established US healthcare venture capital firms. Previously he was General Partner of Sierra Ventures, where he served as General Partner of five successive venture capital partnerships and was the leader of Sierra's investment practice in healthcare. He has been a venture capital investor since 1988 and has served as a founding investor and board member of over 20 health care companies. He has an MD and a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Helsinki, and an MBA from Stanford University.

Dr Klaus Veitinger
Dr. Veitinger was appointed to the Board of Chroma in April 2007. He has over 15 years experience within the pharmaceutical industry and has held senior management positions in drug development, licensing and business development, strategic planning and M&A, as well as general management. Most recently he was a Member of the Executive Board of Schwarz Pharma AG and the Chief Executive Officer of Schwarz Pharma Inc. with responsibility for its US and Asia business. He also served as a Director of BoneCare International and AnorMED Inc. until their ultimate sale. He served on the Board of Aryx Pharmaceuticals and was a Director of the Board of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) for seven years.  He earned his medical degree at the University of Heidelberg, his doctorate in pathophysiology at the University of Heidelberg and his MBA at INSEAD.

Professor Paul Workman
Professor Workman is a biochemist by training with a PhD from the University of Leeds. Following work in cancer drug development at Cambridge and at Stanford University, he was appointed as Professor of Experimental Cancer Therapeutics at the Beatson Laboratories and Glasgow University. From 1993 to 1997, he was Head of Cancer Bioscience at Zeneca Pharmaceuticals. He is currently Harrap Professor of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of London and Director, Cancer Research UK Centre for Cancer Therapeutics at The Institute of Cancer Research in Sutton, UK. Professor Workman is a Cancer Research UK Life Fellow and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. He has over 25 years experience in the research and drug development of innovative cancer therapies.
